GIANLUCA MONTAQUE
GAME DESIGNER
A LITTLE ABOUT ME
I want to design emotional and engaging experiences that players will never forget, whether that be a melancholy narrative adventure with a heartwrenching conclusion or a chaotic party game that leaves players excited, laughing, and ready for round two.

In 2020, after becoming disillusioned with my career in digital marketing, I decided to leave my job, go to university, and chase my childhood dream of becoming a game developer.
In September 2020, I began a BA in Game Design at the University of the Arts London. After establishing some foundational knowledge in Unity and C#, I found myself thriving in technical design where I could ideate, develop rapid prototypes, and build tools to simplify design and development for the rest of my team. From here, I enjoyed leading the iteration process by researching new solutions, applying my existing knowledge, and innovating on mechanics using established game design principles.

Having concluded my third year, I can now say that I'm a straight-A student (that's crazy), and I have worked on several projects I'm proud of both inside and outside of university, spanning solo and team projects across various genres. Many of these projects are playable on itch.io.

I have also leveraged my existing skillset to secure opportunities where I can develop my industry experience part-time during my degree, including becoming a podcast host and Marketing Manager for Game Dev London, a community-focused game developer group. I have also done voluntary work as a speaker for Into Games, having spoken at WASD, EGX, GDLX and more (watch a talk by me here).
Through Game Dev London, I secured a paid part-time role at BetaJester, a primarily work-for-hire indie studio, and have transitioned to a Business Game Designer position which involves combining my user-focused marketing experience with my technical game design skills to help inform and execute design decisions for two upcoming titles being developed by BetaJester, including Aerial_Knight's We Never Yield. I have also attended several industry events in an official capacity for BetaJester, including pitch meetings at Develop:Brighton 2023 and the Games Finance Market 2024.

I'm always looking for new opportunities to develop my skills, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at gianlucam[at]hotmail.co.uk.
